LHC orders to arrest unlicensed vehicle, motorcycle drivers

Lahore: The Lahore High Court (LHC) Friday ordered the arrest those driving vehicles and motorcycles without license.

According to the details, a case was heard in LHC on a petition against the inclusion of Section 302 in the incident of the death of six people in a car accident in Defense Housing Authority (DHA), area of Lahore.

Chief Traffic Officer and Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Operations appeared in the court, Additional Advocate General Punjab Ghulam Sarwar also appeared in the court on behalf of the Punjab government.

The court remarked that the authorities will be given time to file the report that if there are one million vehicles on the road, then only 200,000 people would have license.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) said that 7.3 million vehicles are plying on the road, while only 1.3 million are licensed. On which the court remarked that this is a huge difference, what the traffic police is doing in this regard.

The CTO replied to the court that they have increased the number of license centers from six to 30.

Court inquired how many people you been caught after this accident. To which the CTO replied that 88 people have been arrested. At 90 locations they are checking licenses only, while three centers have been activated for 24 hours.

The court remarked that this crime is taking place mostly in posh areas, what about people who give cars to their underage children. The CTO replied that it was an offense under the law.

Excise Department should also be notified, judge said that without a license the vehicle cannot be registered in the Excise.
