Kareena Kapoor shifts focus from looks to acting in OTT debut
The actress shares the challenges of overcoming the constant pressure to prioritize her looks over acting.

Mumbai: Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor Khan opened up about shifting her focus from appearance to acting, particularly in the context of her OTT debut with Jaane Jaan.
With a career spanning decades in the Indian film industry, Kareena Kapoor Khan has transitioned to the digital space this year, marking her debut on OTT platforms.
The actress shared the challenges of overcoming the constant pressure to prioritize her looks over acting. She emphasized that she no longer concerns herself with displaying wrinkles or fine lines, expressing a desire to be recognized as an actor first.
She expressed these remarks in a recent interview.
During The Film Companion Actors' Adda 2023, Kapoor Khan discussed shooting a scene in Jaane Jaan where the camera was in close proximity, constantly moving around her. When asked about breaking free from the vanity of appearance and focusing solely on acting, she acknowledged the industry's tendency to box her into a fixation on her looks over the past two decades. Despite this, she has consistently strived to break away from that perception.
“I want to be an actor first. This has been the case right from my first movie,” she shared.
Confident in her appearance, Kapoor Khan stated, "I don’t care if my lines are showing because that is just the way I am. I am an actor. Can you look beyond that? That’s always been a challenge for me."
She emphasized her longstanding commitment to proving herself as an actor, noting that the "star" aspect of her career has been incidental. Kapoor Khan concluded by stating that her focus is no longer on the celebrity aspect, but on her identity as an actor, a journey she has pursued since her debut in Refugee.
