PML-N senior leader Ahsan Iqbal confirms passing away of Sartaj Aziz and expresses deep condolences, emphasizing that Sartaj Aziz's dedicated service to the country will be forever etched in memory.


Lahore: Sartaj Aziz, a prominent figure in Pakistani politics and a former Finance Minister, breathed his last.
The sad news was confirmed by PML-N senior leader Ahsan Iqbal through his tweet.
He acknowledged Sartaj Aziz as a significant asset to the Tehreek-e-Pakistan and lauded his substantial contributions to the nation. Ahsan Iqbal expressed deep condolences, emphasizing that Sartaj Aziz's dedicated service to the country will be forever etched in memory.
Sartaj Aziz, born on February 7, 1929, in Nowshehra, actively participated in the Pakistan Movement. He joined the civil service in 1950 and pursued higher education, earning a master's degree in economics from Harvard University. Sartaj Aziz held pivotal roles throughout his illustrious career, serving as the Joint Secretary of the Planning Commission and later becoming a member of the Planning Commission.

From 1985 to 1999, Sartaj Aziz served as a member of the Pakistan Senate, contributing his expertise to various sectors. His diverse portfolio included positions such as Finance Minister, Minister of State for Food and Agriculture, and Advisor to the Prime Minister for National Security and Foreign Affairs. In the aftermath of the 2013 elections, he assumed the role of an advisor to then-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for National Security and Foreign Affairs. Sartaj Aziz was widely recognized as a senior leader within the PML-N ranks, playing a pivotal role in shaping the party's stance on national and international issues.
