Lahore: Sarfraz Ahmed, the wicketkeeper-batsman of the National cricket team, on Tuesday stepped down from his role as captain of Quetta Gladiators while Rilee Rossouw made the new captain of the team.
The sources said that Sarfraz Ahmed made the decision to resign from the captaincy following a suggestion from coach Shane Watson.
He will continue to contribute as a player in PSL Season 9 while representing Quetta Gladiators.
In a significant development, Rilee Rossouw has been named as the new captain of Quetta Gladiators for the upcoming PSL season, with Saud Shakeel appointed as the vice-captain.
Nadeem Umar, the owner of Quetta Gladiators, revealed in a special conversation that Sarfaraz Ahmed expressed his desire to take a break from leadership responsibilities within the team. Coach Shane Watson will consult with the team management to finalize the appointment of the new captain.
It's worth noting that Quetta Gladiators, a prominent PSL franchise, clinched the 2019 title under the leadership of Sarfraz Ahmed. The team has also reached the final in 2016 and 2017.
