Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to hold the Senate general elections on April 3, reportedly.
According to the media reports, the Election Commission has prepared the schedule for the general elections of the Senate which is being suggested to hold on April 3.
It is also reported that the Chief Election Commissioner and the members will give the final approval of the Senate election schedule.
The commission has decided to hold elections for 48 seats in the Senate in the first week of April, added the reports.
On April 3, 12 senators will be elected from Sindh and Punjab each, while two senators will be elected from Islamabad, 11 new senators will be elected from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan each.
52 senators of the Senate will retire after completing their term on March 11 including 12 from Punjab and Sindh each while four senators from former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) will complete their term. Similarly, 11 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan each while two senators from Islamabad will bid farewell to the upper house at the end of their term.
It is pertinent to note that under the 25th constitutional amendment, there will be no re-election on the four Senate seats of the former FATA.
