Lahore: A delegation representing the Central Kiryana Association Lahore convened with the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) to discuss the prevailing challenges encountered by Kiryana Merchants, with LCCI President Kashif Anwar emphasizing the need for swift resolution.
Led by President of Kiryana Merchants Association Lahore, Tahir Saqlain, the delegation articulated concerns regarding their exclusion from crucial decision-making processes, particularly in matters concerning rate lists and related policies formulated by governmental bodies. The discussion also highlighted instances of harassment during raids, citing the absence of authorized officials during such operations.
President Kashif Anwar reaffirmed LCCI's commitment to advocating for the rights of all entrepreneurs, regardless of their membership status. He pledged support to address the pressing issues faced by Kiryana Merchants, stressing the necessity for their prompt resolution.
The delegation further underscored challenges imposed by civil administration and law enforcement regarding business timings, urging for remedial actions. Additionally, they expressed the need for awareness workshops regarding the recent mandate for compulsory registration of retailers by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
In response, Kashif Anwar informed the delegation of LCCI's proactive engagement on this matter, advocating for a simplified tax return process for retailers and shopkeepers. He emphasized the importance of continuity in policies and suggested a five-year timeframe for the implementation of such schemes.
Furthermore, Kashif Anwar proposed the introduction of a simplified "Tajir Dost Scheme" to incentivize retailer registration and expand the tax base, aligning with LCCI's recommendations.
