NEPRA indicates further increase in power tariff

Lahore: National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has indicated further increase in electricity prices.

According to NEPRA, the continued decline in power demand may further increase the quarterly adjustment.

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority said that electricity demand fell by an overall 12 percent through February, with quarterly adjustments likely to increase prices due to continued decline in demand.

NEPRA has asked the Ministry of Power and Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) to submit a proposal to eliminate load shedding on a commercial basis, with 60 percent capitation payments in electricity tariffs, which is much higher than international standards.

The NEPRA authority has directed that the CPPA should also work on reducing the capacity payment, the current quarterly adjustment of which is Rs2.75 per unit, within the legal framework.
