Don't want confrontation with govt, judiciary expects level-playing field: LHC CJ

Lahore: Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmed on Friday said that they [the judiciary] did not want confrontation with the government, but expected a lever-playing field.

Addressing a function held at the Punjab Judicial Academy, the CJ said that being a judge was not a job so they [judges] didn't fear losing it. "Judges have to go through many difficult phases in their service. New judges have also gone through difficult phases to become part of the judiciary."

CJ Ahmed further said that if someone didn't respect the judiciary, don't expect us to. "Every Pakistani citizen has the right to get legal protection."

He further said that we [the judiciary] were not anyone's B-team as "we are answerable only to Allah Almighty.

The CJ said that a good number of women judges were part of the judiciary, adding more than 800,000 cases were registered in Punjab.
