Peshawar: At least 24 passengers has been tested positive for COVID-19 at the Bacha Khan Airport in Peshawar on Thursday.

According to details, Pakistan International Airlines flight (PIA) PK-218 brought a total of 128 passengers from Abu Dhabi.

Their swabs were taken for a Covid-19 test, after which 24 of the passengers found to be carrying the the novel coronavirus.

As per airport officials, the sniffer dogs deployed at the Peshawar airport detected the COVID-infected passengers.

The passengers were then directed to quarantine themselves and handed over to the district administration.

On June 2, twenty-six passengers had tested positive for the deadly virus at the same airport.

Meanwhile, Pakistan is presently experiencing the third wave of coronavirus which is said to be deadlier and more contagious than previous two waves.

According to National Command and Operations Center (NCOC), around 1,303 cases of coronavirus were reported while 76 people succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours, taking the total death toll to 21,529.

The NCOC stated that the positivity rate stands at 3.1%.

The total number of cases has reached 937,434.

As many as 871,669 patients have recovered from the disease with 2,967 critical cases.
