The petition stated that the position of court reporters was not heard before the ban under PEMRA rules

Karachi: Pakistan Electronic Media regulatory Authority’s (PEMRA) notification banning the reporting of court proceedings was also challenged in the Sindh High Court (SHC) which has been accepted for immediate hearing.
A two-member bench headed by the Chief Justice of the SHC will hear the matter shortly.
The petition was filed by Amin Anwar, Shaukat Korai and others, in which PEMRA, Ministry of Information Broadcast and others have been made parties.
The petition contended that PEMRA issued a notification banning court reporting on May 21, 2024. PEMRA rules allow live court reporting. A meeting of the authority was not called before banning court reporting.
The petition stated that the position of court reporters was not heard before the ban under PEMRA rules. The ban on court reporting is a violation of Articles-VIII, IX, X, XVIII, XIX and XXV of the Constitution.
