According to details, a French court sentenced a man who slapped French President Emmanuel Macron across the face this week to a prison term of 18 months, 14 of which were suspended.

The 28-year old Damien Tarel admitted slapping French President and told the court it was an act of impulse, whereas the prosecutor said it was a "deliberate act of violence" and “absolutely unacceptable” and “an act of deliberate violence”.

"When I saw his friendly, lying look, which sought me out as a voter, I was filled with disgust," Damien Tarel was reported as saying to the court.

On the other hand, Emmanuel Macron had decided not to take legal action himself and had left it on the court to decide on the matter.

Earlier this week, French President was slapped by a man during a walkabout session with a crowd in southeastern France.

The incident took place while Macron was on a visit to the Drome region in south-eastern France, where he met restaurateurs and students to talk about how life is returning to normal after the COVID-19 epidemic.

A video that surfaced on social media shows a man in a green T-Shirt, with glasses and a face mask, shout out "Down with Macronia" and then deliver a slap to President’s face.

Macron's security staff quickly interfered to pull the man to the ground and move Macron away from him.
