Chief Mines Inspector Abdul Ghani Baloch says the devastating incident was a result of a gas explosion which led to suffocation

Quetta: In a tragic incident reported from Sanjdi, Balochistan, 11 miners lost their lives due to suffocation deep inside a coal mine.
Chief Mines Inspector Abdul Ghani Baloch stated that the devastating incident was a result of a gas explosion which led to suffocation.
The Chief Mines Inspector further elaborated that the accident occurred due to a gas leak, resulting in the fatalities of 11 individuals, including nine miners, a contractor, and a mine manager. All the deceased were identified as residents of Swat, and their bodies will be transported to their hometown after funeral prayers.
This incident echoes a similar tragedy that unfolded on March 19, where a blast in the Harnai coal mine claimed the lives of 12 miners and left six others injured.
The subsequent investigation report held the mine owner and contractor accountable for the blast.
It revealed that the mine was shut down for six months, yet upon reopening, no safety measures were implemented to monitor gas levels inside the mine, leading to the catastrophic event.
Furthermore, it was highlighted that the mine lacked essential equipment for gas level checks and lacked alternate methods for gas discharge.
The authorities announced their decision to pursue legal action against the owner and contractor of the Harnai coal mine in light of these findings.
