Budget FY22: PTI-led govt ‘approves 10 per cent increase’ in pays, pensions
The federal cabinet has accorded an approval to 10 per cent raise in the pays of government officials associated with federal departments and autonomous bodies.
Similarly, retired government servants will also have 10 per cent increase in their pensions.
The cabinet also gave approval to the federal budget for fiscal year 2021-22 as this would be third annual budget the Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaaf government is going to present in the National Assembly shortly.
Senior govenrment officials speaking to GNN have expressed concerns at, what they say, a meagre raise.
"The govenrment emplyees were expecting around 25 per cent raise in salaries in the backdrop of 'announcement' of the federal information minister and working in the ministry of finance," said a senior govenrment officer who wished not to be named.
Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry was earlier quoted by a section of press as having said that the govenrment would provide a big relief to the government employees.
The officer further said 10 per cent increase could not be justified if the current rate of inflation has to be kept in mind.
