Taruba: In the match of International Cricket Council (ICC) T20 Men’s World Cup 2024, West Indies defeated New Zealand by 13 runs with a brilliant comeback.

In the 26th match of the T20 World Cup hosted by the USA and the West Indies under the auspices of the ICC, New Zealand won the toss and invited the host West Indies to bat. The two teams played at the Brian Lara Cricket Stadium.

West Indies Innings

The host West Indies opened the batting on the invitation of New Zealand which did not turn out well. The opener Johnson Charles was bowled by Trent Boult without opening the account. After them Nicholas Pooran came to support Brendan King but could not stay on crease for too long and returned to the pavilion at a total score of 20. Three more wickets fell in the next 10 runs of the host team.

Sharfin Rutherford, who came at number six, took the crease on a total score of 30 and showed an aggressive game to take the team's score to 149. He played a brilliant innings of 68 runs off 39 balls and remained not out. Aqeel Hussain scored 15, Andre Russell scored 14 and Romario Shepherd scored 13.

On behalf of New Zealand, Trent Boult bowled the best and dismissed three players by giving 16 runs in four overs. Tim Southee and Lockie Ferguson took two wickets each, while Jimmy Neesham and Mitchell Santner sent one player each back to the pavilion.

Kiwis squad

The New Zealand team was led by Kane Williamson, including Finn Allen, Dion Conway, Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, Jimmy Neesham, Mitchell Santner, Richan Ravinda, Trent Boult, Lockie Ferguson and Tim Southee.

West Indian Squad

Roman Powell captained West Indies while other players included Brendan King, Johnson Charles, Nicholas Pooran, Ruston Chase, Sherfin Rutherford, Andre Russell, Romario Shepherd, Aqeel Hussain, Alzari Joseph and Gadkesh Moti.
