Ghazal King Mehdi Hassan remembered on 9th death anniversary
The ninth death anniversary of ‘the emperor of the world of music’ late Mehdi Hasan Khan was observed on Sunday with tributes paid to his contribution in the music field.

Lollywood ‘ghazal’ King has passed away 9 years ago on June, 13 in 2012 and left his worldwide fans mournful.
Born on July 18, 1927, in Luna, a village in Rajasthan, Mehdi Hassan belonged to a family of traditional musicians. He was also awarded KL Saigal Sangeet Shehenshah Award by the government of India.
The legend formally started singing through a program at the age of 8 and moved to Pakistan after the partition of India. In 1957, he got an opportunity to show his artistic talents in Pakistan Radio from Karachi.
From the film 'Farangi' released in 1962, his Ghazal “Gulon Me Rang Barsay” took him to the heights of fame.
Be it a song, a ghazal, or an anthem, Mehdi Hassan used to breathe life into it with his voice. Every ghazal and song he sang is immortal and excellent.
Mehdi Hassan has sung in more than 25,000 films and non-film songs and lyrics in his life.
Mehdi Hassan's national anthem "Ye Watan Tumhara Hay, Tum Ho Pasban Is Kay" still warms the nation's blood.
His first song was ‘Jis Ne mere dil Ko dard diya’ film ‘Susral’ in 1962 and popular ‘ghazal’ ‘Insha ji ab kooch Karo is shar me dil Ko lagna Kia’ made him immortal.
Later, Lata Mangeshkar said compliments for him that ‘Bhagwan’ talks in his throat. In October 2010, HMV released Sarhadein in which probably the first and last duet song ‘Tera Milana’ featuring Mehdi Hassan and Lata Mangeshkar was released.
He was honoured with Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, Pride of Performance and Hilal-e-Imtiaz by the government of Pakistan.
The Emperor of Ghazals passed away after a protracted illness, in a private hospital in Karachi.
Although he is no longer with us but his voice is still alive today.
