Islamabad: Senator Faisal Vawda issued an unconditional apology to the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Wednesday in a contempt of court case.

In his new response to the court, Vawda expressed that he was at the mercy of the Supreme Court. He requested that the contempt of court proceedings against him be dropped, clarifying that his press conference was not meant to disrespect the judiciary.

Vawda claimed that his statements were misinterpreted and emphasized that he had no intention of undermining the judiciary’s dignity. He also referenced Quranic verses and Hadiths in his response. He urged the court to withdraw the show-cause notice issued to him in the contempt case.

Previously, Vawda had submitted a reply to the Supreme Court over the contempt notice, initially refusing to issue an unconditional apology for his May 15 press conference. He asserted that his comments were not intended to insult the judiciary but were meant for the country’s betterment. He requested the court to show restraint and to withdraw the notice.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had issued contempt notices to Senator Faisal Vawda and MQM-Pakistan MNA Mustafa Kamal for anti-judiciary remarks. The court took suo moto notice of their press conferences, where they demanded evidence of judicial interference.

While Mustafa Kamal issued an unconditional apology to the Supreme Court for his remarks, Vawda stood by his criticism of Islamabad High Court (IHC) judges during his press conference. He challenged the IHC judges to provide evidence of alleged interference in judicial affairs by security agencies.

Vawda called for the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) to intervene and insisted that the targeting of state institutions should cease to protect the country from both external and internal conspiracies.
