Sialkot: Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Tuesday those who violates the constitution should be trialed under article 6 and parliament has the sole right for legislation.
Talking to a press conference in Sialkot, he said that the constitution defines the limits and powers of all institutions.
Asif stated that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was working against the country's integrity and stability of the country. “PTI attacked on the stability and integrity of the country on May 9 last year,” he said and added that parliament had sole right for legislation.
Asif criticized the judiciary for not taking notice of the 2018 election results, which he claims were not transparent. Speaking to the media, he questioned why the judiciary remained silent back then.
Criticizing the judicial system of the country, defence minister said that the judiciary was protecting those involved in the May 9 incidents. “If any judge has ever faced contempt of court charges for making unconstitutional decisions?” he asked, saying that even deceased judges should be held accountable and tried for their actions. He stressed that the constitution does not state that one institution's respect is greater than another's, underscoring the need for equal treatment and accountability for all.
