Canada's first female army chief appointed

Ottawa: Canada's first female army chief takes command of the army.

According to foreign media reports, 56-year-old General Jennie Carigna took over as Canada's chief of defense staff in a ceremony on Thursday, becoming the first woman to lead Canada's armed forces.

Jennie Carigna began her career as a military engineer, leading troops in Afghanistan, Bosnia, Iraq, and Syria during her illustrious 35-year career.

General Jennie has been appointed as the Chief of Defense Staff, replacing General Wayne Airs.

It is pertinent to note that Jennie Carigna is the second woman army chief in the world.

The honor of being the first female army chief belongs to the general of the European country of Slovenia, who became the head of the country's army in 2018.
