Petition said that Section 144 in Punjab was imposed on political grounds to stop peaceful protest of political party
Lahore: The implementation of Section 144 in Punjab was challenged in the Lahore High Court (LHC).
The petition was filed on behalf of Azhar Siddique Advocate, in which the Punjab Government, Home Secretary and Deputy Commissioners have been made parties.
The petition said that Section 144 in Punjab was imposed on political grounds to stop the peaceful protest of a political party.
In the petition, it was requested that the court should declare the notification of Section 144 null and void and the enforcement of Section 144 be suspended till the final decision of the petition.
It is pertinent to note that yesterday the Punjab government had imposed Section 144 across the province following the call of protest by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
The Interior Department has banned the meetings, processions, rallies, sit-ins and protests across the Punjab. Section 144 has been imposed across the province for three days, which will be applicable from Friday, July 26 to Sunday, July 28.
According to the Home Department, Section 144 was implemented to maintain law and order, and protect human lives and property.
