The union expressed concern in a report released by the European Foreign Minister Joseph Borrell at an online press conference.

"In the current context, we believe that the new partnership allows us to realize the potential for closer cooperation with Russia," he said.

“We believe that a renewed partnership allowing us to realise the full potential of a close cooperation with Russia is a distant prospect,” Borrell told. “The EU therefore needs to be realistic and prepare for a further downturn of our relations with Russia, which are right now at the lowest level. And this further downturn is the most likely outlook for the time being.”

He said Russia's deliberate policy, especially its recent attempts to annex Crimea and destabilize European member states in 2014, as well as interventions in Syria, Libya and elsewhere, had a negative impact on bilateral relations. Is.

At the same time, he answered various questions and hinted that Europe would not reduce its current purchases of oil and gas from Russia.

He also said that the European Union was ready to hold talks with Russia on the peace process in Afghanistan, Syria, Libya, Iran and the Middle East.

It is to be noted that this latest report released by Giuseppe Borrell will be discussed at the European Summit to be held in Brussels next week.
