Cristiano Ronaldo’s snub had a massive impact on the brand and coincided with a $4bn fall in the share price of the company.

The Juventus star moved forward by holding up a bottle of water saying, “Agua! (Water!)”.

Video clips of the incident have gone viral on social media.

Coca-Cola is one of the official sponsors of Euro 2020. The company’s share price dropped from $56.10 to $55.22 almost immediately after Ronaldo’s gesture, a 1.6% dip. However, the market value of soft drink brand went from $242bn to $238bn, losing $4bn.

Ronaldo is a pop culture colossus, boasting almost 300 million Instagram followers.

Meanwhile, Coca Cola issued a statement and said that players are offered water, alongside ‘Coca Cola’ and ‘Coca Cola Zero Sugar’ on arrival at their press conferences.

The company said that “everyone is entitled to their drink preferences” and that everyone has different “tastes and needs”.
