Islamabad: The advent of digital services in the country has shown positive results and the revenue growth has increased by more than 200 percent.
According to the report of the Auditor General of Pakistan, the Excise and Taxation Department took digital measures in 2021-20, which increased the revenue growth by 114 percent. An increase of 267 percent was recorded in the revenue growth in 2022-21, while the revenue growth increased to 242 percent in the fiscal year 2023-22.
The report stated that before digital initiatives, revenue growth was 63 percent in FY20-19, 83 percent in FY2019-18 and 76 percent in FY2018-17.
According to the report, there was a slight decrease in revenue growth in 2023-22 compared to the financial year 2022-21, which was due to the higher rate of new registration tax, while the tax rate on new registration is very high in Islamabad.
The Auditor General's report further stated that 76 percent of taxpayers in the audit survey were aware of digital services and about 98 percent of taxpayers found digital services useful.
