Intending to launch 14 low earth orbit communication satellites by 2031, South Korea is set to establish a satellite network to prepare for 6G technology.

The development satellites aims to acquire future technologies like the autonomous operation of satellite swarms and removing space trash.

However, the country is testing autonomous ship control systems and marine traffic services.

Country’s Ministry of Science and ICT stated that it would pursue such satellite development to encourage the private sector’s involvement in the space industry, saying that the mini satellites can be manufactured in short time at low cost.

The ministry also plans to develop 22 satellites by 2028 to observe rain wave activity in space.

South Korea’s space programme has so far been driven by large-scale state-led projects, such as the launch of its first space rocket slated for October this year.

The country has recently redoubled efforts in its space program, with the launch of its first lunar orbiter set for next year.
