Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party Chairman Mahmood Khan Achakzai calls for broader investigations and political reforms

Mardan: Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Chairman of the Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, on Sunday urged for comprehensive investigations into various national issues including the events of May 9.
He emphasized the need for accountability across multiple fronts while addressing the “Meet the Press” event at the Mardan Press Club.
Achakzai claimed that President Asif Ali Zardari recently met with Maulana Fazlur Rehman to discuss securing a two-thirds majority in the parliament. He also accused political parties of accepting bribes under the guise of donations.
He highlighted that the right to govern is the biggest challenge facing Pakistan today.
“In the elections, PTI has won across the country, and governance is their right," Achakzai remarked.
Regarding the May 9 incidents, the senior politician stressed that investigations should not be limited to just that day, but should encompass other significant matters as well.
Achakzai lamented that if the rule of the Constitution had prevailed in Pakistan, the country would not have faced division, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto would not have been hanged, and Benazir Bhutto would not have been assassinated.
“Pakistan is sinking. All our problems are internal, and we are tearing the country apart like wolves,” Achakzai stated, adding that all ethnic groups residing in Pakistan must be granted equal rights.
“We are not asking for charity; we are asking for our rightful share,” he asserted.
The Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party chairman further said that the country cannot function without the army and intelligence agencies. However, for Pakistan to progress, “the supremacy of the Constitution and the acknowledgment of the Parliament as the source of power are essential,”.
In a revealing remark, Achakzai disclosed that former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had offered him a ministerial position in the past, but he had declined the offer.
