Dhaka: Former judge of the Appellate Division of the Bangladeshi Supreme Court, Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik, was violently attacked by the public during his court appearance, the Bangladeshi media reported on Sunday.
The incident occurred when the 75-year-old ex-judge was brought to court.
As he stepped out of the prison van, the crowd showered him with kicks and punches.
The supporters and leaders of various political groups also threw water bottles, eggs, and shoes at him. Following the assault, the former judge was immediately transferred to a hospital, where he was placed in the intensive care unit (ICU).
The hospital sources revealed that Justice Manik sustained multiple injuries including internal trauma, and his condition remains critical. The security around the hospital has been heightened, with military and police personnel assigned to guard the former judge.
Last Friday, former Supreme Court judge Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik was arrested near the Indian border while allegedly attempting to flee to India.
