Two new ships ready for formal induction in Pakistan Navy

Rawalpindi: There has been a remarkable increase in naval defense capabilities as two new warships are ready for formal induction in the Pakistan Navy.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), on the occasion of Defense Day, two large ships PNS Babar and PNS Hunain will join the fleet of the Pakistan Navy simultaneously.

According to ISPR, the first Miljum/Babar class ship built in Turkey will officially become part of the Pakistan Navy while the third offshore patrol vessel built in Romania, PNS Hanin, will also join the Pakistan Navy.

President Asif Ali Zardari will be the chief guest of the induction ceremony of the ships.

ISPR said that the construction of PNS Babar started on June, 4 2020, was launched on August, 15 2021 and commissioning took place on September 23, 2023.

Four Babar class ships equipped with vertical launching systems are being inducted into the Pakistan Navy. Two ships are being manufactured in Istanbul and two in Karachi under the Pak-Turkey agreement while three other Babar class ships PNS Badar, Tariq, and Khyber is in the building stages.

According to the ISPR, the Babar-class ship is capable of combating surface, underwater and air combat simultaneously. The 2,888 ton Babar class ship is equipped with a vertical launch system to deal with air threats, which can target aerial targets.
