ECP Secretary asserted that the commission is an independent constitutional body

Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has refused to share details of general election expenses with parliament.
In a letter to the Secretary of the Senate Standing Committee on Parliamentary Affairs, the ECP Secretary asserted that the commission is an independent constitutional body, separate from the federal or provincial governments.
The letter highlighted that election expenses are part of the Federal Consolidated Fund's mandatory expenditures.
While the ECP has decided it is not obligated to provide the standing committee with the requested information, it is prepared to assist with matters related to electoral laws and constitutional provisions.
