Lahore: The 98th birth anniversary of melodious singer of Pakistan Noor Jahan is being celebrated today (Saturday). Noor Jahan was born on September 21, 1926 in Kasur and ruled millions of hearts with her immortal voice. She said goodbye to the world on December 23, 2000.
Noor Jahan started her artistic journey in 1935 as a child star with the film ‘Pind Di Kuriyan’. She recorded songs for 995 films and sang more than 10,000 songs in her lifetime. The magic of her voice continues to mesmerize people even today.
The singer not only made her mark in the film world but also played an important role in uniting the nation by singing national songs during the Indo-Pak war of 1965. In recognition of her services, the Government of Pakistan awarded her the Presidential Medal for Excellence and Nishan-e-Imtiaz.
Even today, Noor Jahan's voice is alive in people's hearts. Various literary and cultural institutions are organizing birthday celebrations in her memory.
