PPP will continue to play role for freedom of press, says Bilawal
Former FM says free press is one of the basic pillars for any democracy
Islamabad: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has said that his party will continue to play its role for the sake of the freedom of the press.
Expressing his thoughts in line with International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists on Saturday, the former foreign minister said, “Free press is one of the basic pillars for any democracy.”
“Journalism is not merely a profession, but it is meant for serving society and democracy,” he stated.
He said, “The freedom of the press is at stake in places like Occupied Kashmir and Gaza."
Underscoring the importance of press freedom, Bhutto-Zardari said: “The freedom of the press takes centre stage in our values.”
“The PPP has always rallied behind the freedom of the press and always stood against any type of censorship,” he stated.
“I would like to pay homage to the journalists who made sacrifices for the uplift of truth and justice,” Bhutto-Zardari maintained.
