Bill approved to not grant citizenship to newborn foreigner

Islamabad: The Standing Committee on Interior of the lower house of the country (National Assembly) approved the bill to amend the law on granting citizenship, according to which Pakistani citizenship will not be granted to the newborn foreign child.

The meeting of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly was held in the Parliament House under the chairmanship of Raja Khurram Nawaz.

In the meeting, the Power Division of the Ministry disclosed that at present there is a recovery of Rs18 trillion in the electricity bills, which has not been done yet.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) member Zartaj Gul said that people are attacked in her area under the guise of checking electricity. The police should not have authority in cases of electricity theft.

Nabeel Gabol, a member of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP), revealed that a water operator of a building was arrested for electricity theft in Karachi, and died in jail three months later. Earlier there were buffalo theft cases, now electricity theft cases are being registered.

Sahibzada Hamid Raza, a member of the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), also revealed that cases of electricity theft have been registered against nine members of the assembly in Punjab.

Chairman Committee Khurram Nawaz said that you pick up common people but not arrest any influential person.

DG Passports Mustafa Jamal Qazi told the committee that Germany's printers are the most modern in the world which can process 4,000 passports in an hour. The backlog has been eliminated in the fast track category, which is 1,70,000 in the urgent category. The backlog will be cleared in the next 2-3 weeks.

The chairman committee said that blue passports should be issued to our members by the next meeting. DG Passport assured to reduce the backlog of passports across the country to zero by December 15.
