Public holiday has also been declared in the constituency today


Sheikhupura: The polling process has begun for the by-elections in Punjab Assembly constituency PP-139 Sheikhupura on Thursday.
According to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), the voting process began at 8:00am and will continue till 5:00pm without any break.
Foolproof security arrangements have been made on this occasion. A public holiday has also been declared in the constituency today.
According to officials, a total of 359 polling stations have been set up in the constituency where 186,247 voters will exercise their right to vote.
A close contest is expected between the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) in constituency PP-139.
Rana Tahir Iqbal from PML-N, Ijaz Hussain Bhatti from SIC, and Farooq-ul-Hassan from Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) are in the fray. Seven independent candidates are also participating in the elections.
It is pertinent to note that the seat fell vacant due to the death of Rana Afzal Hussain of PML-N.
