Seoul: South Korea's suspended President Yoon Suk Yeol has been arrested.
According to a foreign news agency, investigators entered the compound of South Korea's suspended President Yoon Suk Yeol's official residence using stairs to arrest him.
The report said that the investigators arrived at the presidential palace with about 1,000 officials, but upon their arrival, presidential guards and supporters initially resisted and prevented him from being arrested, but he was later arrested.
According to an anti-corruption investigator, South Korea's suspended President Yoon Suk Yeol has finally been arrested.
Officials say that the Joint Investigation Headquarters has executed Yoon's arrest warrant.
According to the news agency, investigators were previously prevented from arresting showing search and arrest warrants.
The Corruption Investigation Office said that those who prevent them from complying with the warrant will be detained.
Earlier, thousands of supporters of the suspended South Korean president also formed a shield outside the presidential palace. 30 lawmakers from Yoon's ruling People's Power Party also reached outside the presidential palace.
It is pertinent to note that the case is under trial in the Constitutional Court after President Yoon was impeached for imposing martial law for a short period on December 3.
An investigation is underway into whether the suspended president's December 3 martial law in South Korea amounted to a coup. Despite the successful impeachment and suspension, former President Yoon was residing in the presidential residence.
