Fine of Rs0.5mn to Rs5mn will be imposed on kite flying, manufacturing, sale, and transportation
Lahore: A complete ban on kite flying has been imposed in Punjab, while strict punishments will be imposed for violations.
The Punjab Assembly has passed a bill to completely ban kite flying and the Punjab Prohibition of Kite Flying Amendment Act 2024 has been passed. Kite flying has been declared a non-bailable offense throughout the province, and the violation will be punishable by imprisonment for at least three to seven years.
A fine of Rs0.5 million to Rs5 million will be imposed on kite flying, manufacturing, sale, and transportation. The ban will apply to kites, metal wires, nylon cords, strings, and all threads with sharp edges for kite flying. There will also be a complete ban on the manufacture and transportation of materials related to kite flying.
In Punjab, a kite flyer will be punished with three to five years in prison or a fine of Rs2 million or both. A kite maker and transporter will be punished with five to seven years in prison or a fine of Rs5 million rupees or both. A child involved in kite flying will be fined Rs50,000 for the first time and Rs100,000 for the second time.
It is pertinent to note that many precious lives were lost due to the use of sharp strings during kite flying. A law has been passed to completely ban kite flying to protect human lives.
