Rescue 1122 operator honored for guiding woman through childbirth over the phone

Karachi: A female operator from Rescue 1122 , Roshan Laghari, has set a new example of service by successfully guiding a woman through childbirth over the phone, earning the prestigious International Academy of Emergency Dispatch Award.

Rescue 1122 Ambulance Service receives hundreds of emergency calls daily, many of which are of a sensitive nature. In September 2024, a call made Roshan Laghari, a 22-year-old Rescue Service operator, deserving of the award.

At the Middle East Navigator Conference 2025 in Bahrain, organized by the International Academy of Emergency Dispatch, Roshan Laghari was honored with the International Academy of Emergency Dispatch Award.

While talking to a private news channel, Roshan Laghari said that calls of this nature are not very common, but on that day, a neighbor of a pregnant woman called to inform them that labor had started. Following their protocol, they provided guidance as much as possible over the phone.

She explained that the call lasted for half an hour, during which they made eight callbacks to the family. Eventually, a healthy baby was born.

According to data from the Sindh Integrated Emergency and Health Services (SIESH), 65 deliveries took place in ambulances during hospital transfers in Sindh in 2024.

Rescue worker Roshan Laghari reiterated her commitment to continue serving humanity with the same dedication in the future.
