Bangladesh's decision to bat first backfires

(Web Desk): India chased down a target of 229 runs to defeat Bangladesh by six wickets in their ICC Champions Trophy match at the Dubai International Stadium on Thursday. Shubman Gill’s century led India to victory, helping them win comfortably.
India started their chase well with openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, who put together a 69-run partnership. However, Rohit was dismissed just before the end of the powerplay, scoring 41 runs from 36 balls with seven boundaries.
Gill then formed a 43-run partnership with Virat Kohli, who scored 22 runs off 38 balls. India faced a brief setback as they lost two more wickets quickly, leaving them at 144/4 in 30.1 overs. At that point, wicketkeeper KL Rahul joined Gill at the crease and helped steady the chase.
The two built an unbeaten 87-run partnership, guiding India to victory. Gill finished on 100 runs off 115 balls, hitting six fours and two sixes. Rahul supported him well, ending on 28*.
For Bangladesh, Rishad Hossain was the best bowler, taking two wickets, while Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman each claimed one wicket.
Earlier, Bangladesh’s decision to bat first backfired as they were quickly reduced to 35/5 in just 8.3 overs. Indian bowlers dominated, with Mohammed Shami leading the way with a brilliant 5/53 in 10 overs.
After the early collapse, Jaker Ali and Towhid Hridoy helped Bangladesh recover. The pair added 151 runs for the sixth wicket, with Jaker scoring 68 runs off 114 balls. However, Shami broke the partnership by dismissing Jaker in the 43rd over.
Despite the loss of wickets in the lower order, Hridoy fought on. He scored a valiant 100 runs from 118 balls, with six fours and two sixes, remaining the top scorer for Bangladesh.
Shami was the standout bowler for India, and Harshit Rana took three wickets, while Axar Patel picked up two.
