During their innings, South Africa lost their first wicket at 28 runs, with Tony de Zorzi dismissed for 11 runs.
Following him, Ryan Rickelton and Temba Bavuma took control of the crease and steadily moved the game forward, with both scoring half-centuries.
However, Bavuma was dismissed at a total of 157 runs, caught off a delivery from Mohammad Nabi. He scored 58 runs.
South African captain Temba Bavuma, speaking at the toss, said they were confident and would try to post a good score.
Afghan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi stated that if they had won the toss, they would have batted first and hoped for a good start. He also mentioned that Afghanistan has played good cricket against South Africa in the past.
