16 security personnel and four civilians were also killed in attack by Bashar al-Assad’s supporters

Latakia: Syrian security forces killed 28 supporters of ousted President Bashar al-Assad.
According to a foreign news agency, fighters loyal to ousted Syrian President Bashar al-Assad attacked government forces in the town of Jabla in Latakia province on Thursday.
The provincial security chief, Lieutenant Colonel Mustafa, said that Bashar al-Assad’s supporters targeted security patrols and checkpoints in Jabla and surrounding countryside.
According to the news agency, 16 security personnel and four civilians were also killed in the attack by Bashar al-Assad’s supporters.
A Britain-based monitoring group said that most of the security personnel killed were from the northwestern Syrian city of Idlib, a stronghold of rebels who fought against Assad during the country’s 13-year civil war.
However, in retaliation, Syrian security forces killed 28 supporters of ousted President Bashar al-Assad during the operation.
Syrian security officials say that we will restore stability in the region and protect the lives and property of our people.
According to the report, after the clashes, security forces announced a curfew that will remain in place until 10:00am on Friday.
It is pertinent to note that in December, opposition forces in Syria captured major cities in the country and forced former President Bashar Assad to flee the country, after which the power of the Assad family, which ruled Syria for more than 5 decades, ended.
Bashar Assad fled to Russia with his family, where he has taken political asylum.
