DIG Imran Kishwar resigns from Punjab Police over ‘internal conflicts’

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Admin Imran Kishwar has resigned from his position, citing frustration with the system and internal conflicts within the Punjab Police.

In his resignation letter, Kishwar expressed disappointment over recent changes, particularly the creation of the new Crime Control Department (CCD), which he said disturbed the police hierarchy.

Although no senior officer openly opposed the move, Kishwar’s resignation points to hidden tensions within the force. He had previously led the now-dissolved Organised Crime Unit (OCU) and held important roles, including SSP Investigation Lahore and DIG Investigation Lahore. He also served in command positions in Kasur, Sheikhupura, Narowal, and Muzaffargarh, and was head of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) handling the May 9th cases.

In his resignation letter, Kishwar mentioned that his years of service had come at a "great personal cost" and left him with "unanswered questions." He also hinted at feeling unappreciated, stating, "Loyalty, when met with indifference or betrayal, ceases to be an obligation."

In a major career shift, Kishwar announced that he would leave law enforcement to focus on writing, saying, "My passion for writing now demands its due."

The Punjab Police leadership has yet to comment on his resignation, but sources suggest that several senior officers were unhappy with the formation of the CCD. Kishwar’s departure could bring these concerns to light. His resignation is a rare public instance of a high-ranking officer expressing dissatisfaction with the police force’s internal workings.
