Senior Indian actor passes away at 83

Mumbai: Senior Indian actor and filmmaker Ayan Mukherjee's father, Deb Mukherjee, has passed away at the age of 83.

According to Indian media, actor and filmmaker Deb Mukherjee passed away at his home in Mumbai on Friday morning after a prolonged illness.

A statement issued by the family said, “We are deeply saddened to inform you that Deb Mukherjee has left us”.

According to Indian media, Deb Mukherjee's last rites were performed in Mumbai's Juhu area.

Deb Mukherjee played supporting roles in several films in the 1960s and 1970s, including To Hi Meri Zindagi, Do Aankhen, Bat Bat Mein, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, and King Uncle.

Apart from that, he directed the film ‘Karate’ in 1983, in which Mithun Chakraborty, Kajal Karan, and Yogita Bali played the lead roles.

According to Indian media, Deb Mukherjee belonged to the famous Mukherjee family. He was the father-in-law of filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker and the uncle of famous Bollywood actresses Kajol and Rani Mukherjee.

Deb Mukherjee's mother Sati Devi was the only sister of famous actors Ashok Kumar, Anup Kumar, and Kishore Kumar. Deb's brother, filmmaker Shomo Mukherjee, married Bollywood actress Tanuja, who is Kajol's mother.

Family members and close friends, including Kajol, Rani Mukerji, Jaya Bachchan, Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, and others, attended Deb Mukherjee's last rites and paid their respects.
