More than 500 cases have been reported from Lahore and Faisalabad alone in March


Lahore: Stray dog bite cases have increased alarmingly across Punjab, with more than 35,000 cases of rabies reported in the province in the past two months, while one death has also occurred.
According to the media reports, more than 25,000 cases of stray dog bites were reported across Punjab in February, while more than 10,000 people were bitten by dogs during the first two weeks of March.
This month, more than 500 cases have been reported from Lahore and Faisalabad alone, with the highest number of stray dog bite cases being reported from Rahim Yar Khan, Lahore, Faisalabad, and Kasur.
According to the health department, one death due to dog bites has also been reported in Vehari this month.
It is pertinent to note that in Karachi too, more than 8,000 cases of dog bites have been reported in three hospitals this year, while six people have died.
According to a recent report, three deaths each from rabies have been reported from JPMC and Indus Hospital in Karachi this year, but none from the Civil Hospital. The latest death from rabies occurred at Indus Hospital, where a person died on Tuesday.
Giving details of the rabies case, Aftab Gohar, Manager of the Rabies Prevention and Training Center at Indus Hospital, said that the 40-year-old patient was bitten by a stray dog in his village in Pano Aqil two weeks ago and was brought to the hospital two days ago.
