He emphasized tree plantation campaign will help reduce pollution and combat diseases


Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif formally inaugurated the Spring Tree Plantation Campaign, 2025 by planting a sapling in Islamabad on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister said 41.7 million saplings will be planted during the campaign across all provinces of the country, including Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
He emphasized this tree plantation campaign will help reduce pollution and combat diseases.
The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of tree plantation in the context of the rapidly changing climatic and environmental conditions.
Recalling the devastating floods of 2022, the Prime Minister said Pakistan is on the list of the most vulnerable countries to the effects of climate change, despite contributing very little to greenhouse gas emissions.
He urged all citizens, especially the youth and farmers, to actively participate in this tree plantation campaign.
The Prime Minister said that trees help a lot in improving our environment. Tree plantations will reduce diseases and environmental pollution.
Shehbaz Sharif added that unfortunately, Pakistan is among the 10 countries most affected by climate change, although Pakistan’s share in greenhouse gas emissions is negligible.
He further said that therefore, there is a need to plant as many trees as possible, we should reap the blessings of Ramadan and work day and night for the development and prosperity of the country. Pakistan will become a great country.
During the Spring 2025 tree plantation campaign, a target has been set to plant 12.87 million saplings in Punjab, 10 million saplings in Sindh, 2.633 million saplings in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 2.062 million saplings in Balochistan, 11.47 million saplings in Azad Kashmir and 4 million saplings in Gilgit-Baltistan.
