Islamabad: Exams for matriculation and intermediate has been started in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Islamabad on Saturday (today) amid calls for a delay in examination.

On Friday, opposition members walked out of the National Assembly session after Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood refused to postpone the assessments.
The opposition leaders raised the issue in the NA, demanding the government to delay the inter exams as students did not get enough time as schools were closed and exams on provincial and national levels had been cancelled last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
However, the federal government refused to postpone the papers, saying it is important to hold exams for the future of students.
Moreover, Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood Friday advised the students who were asking for more time for exam preparation to appear in supplementary exams— scheduled after 2-3 months by all boards.
Those students who say give more time can always appear in supplementary exams taken 2/3 months by all boards. Why should these exams be postponed and students who have been studying be penalised

In KP, the exams have begun with approximately 1.45 million students appearing in papers of eight education boards.
Furthermore, control rooms have been established to monitor CCTV footages of the examination centres.
The matric students will give four papers while the intermediate students three papers.
