Santo Domingo: At least 79 people, including a former baseball player, were killed when the roof of a nightclub collapsed in the Dominican Republic.
According to the British broadcasting organization BBC, at least 79 people have been killed and more than 150 injured when the roof of a nightclub collapsed in the capital of the Dominican Republic, Santo Domingo.
The incident occurred early Tuesday morning at the nightclub during a concert by famous singer Rabbi Perez.
Officials say that the provincial governor and former Major League Baseball player Octavio Dotel is among the dead.
According to the report, hundreds of people were inside the club at the time of the accident. After the accident, several people were buried under the rubble, and rescue operations are underway to find them.
It is feared that the death toll may increase further.
However, the director of the Emergency Operations Center has expressed hope that many people may still be alive under the rubble.
On the other hand, the President of the Dominican Republic has expressed deep sorrow and sympathy to the affected families over this tragic incident.
