Jaipur: At least 11 people were killed and many others left injured in lightning-strike incident in the northern city of Jaipur.

According to details, the victims were taking selfies on top of a popular tourist attraction known as Amer Fort. There were approximately 27 people in the fort when he incident occurred. Some of them reportedly jumped to the ground from tower to save their lives.

Police officials have revealed that Amer Fort is a well-known tourist destination and most of the people among the dead are young.

On Sunday, nine more people were killed from lightning strikes across Rajasthan, the state where Jaipur is located, according to local media reports.

India's monsoon season, which sees heavy to moderate rains, typically lasts from June to September.

Since 2004, lightning strikes have caused more than 2,000 casualties.
