Bilawal says the PPP is committed to defending people's rights and will not compromise on its principles

Hyderabad: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has issued a stern warning to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), stating that his party will sever ties with the ruling coalition if the federal government proceeds with its controversial canal project on the Indus River.
Addressing a public gathering in Hyderabad, Bilawal emphasized that the PPP cannot collaborate with PML-N unless the project is abandoned.
The proposed project involves constructing six canals to irrigate the Cholistan Desert, a plan that has faced strong opposition from Sindh's political parties and nationalist groups. Critics argue that the project violates the 1991 Water Accord and threatens the water rights of Sindh. Bilawal likened the canal project to the contentious Kalabagh Dam, warning that unilateral decisions could lead to political instability and harm the federation.
The PPP chairman also criticized the PML-N for its governance approach, accusing the party of making decisions without consulting smaller provinces. He called for a consensus-based approach to ensure equitable development and protect the rights of all provinces.
Bilawal reiterated that the PPP is committed to defending the rights of the people and will not compromise on principles. He urged the federal government to reconsider the canal project and engage in dialogue to address the concerns of all stakeholders.
