‘Affected peacocks are showing signs of flu, fever, throat swelling, and in some cases, even blindness’

(Web Desk): Over 80 peacocks have died and hundreds more have fallen sick in various villages of Tharparkar, likely due to a mysterious disease made worse by extreme heat and lack of food and water.
Locals from areas including Islamkot, Nagarparkar, and Chachro tehsils say the affected peacocks are showing signs of flu, fever, throat swelling, and in some cases, even blindness. Once symptoms appear, the birds are reportedly unable to recover.
The situation is worse in forested regions, where the rising temperatures and ongoing water shortages are already hard on wildlife. Peacocks, known for their colorful feathers and cultural importance in the Thar desert, are struggling to survive the harsh conditions.
Wildlife lovers and conservationists are alarmed by the deaths, but authorities have not yet confirmed the cause or taken any emergency action.
Temperatures in Mithi and surrounding parts of Tharparkar remain very high, reaching 42°C today. Most parts of Sindh are experiencing hot and dry weather, with no rain forecast.
The country as a whole is facing similar weather, with the highest temperatures recorded on Sunday in Jacobabad (43°C), followed by Mithi, Mirpurkhas, and Shaheed Benazirabad (42°C).
