Billions of dollars in funding for research and other issues were frozen

Washington: The US Department of Education informed Harvard University on Monday that it was freezing billions of dollars in research grants and other aid until the elite university concedes to a number of demands from the Trump administration, a senior department official said.
Harvard University's federal aid was previously frozen after the Trump administration refused to comply with its demands.
The Trump administration said in March that it was reviewing Harvard's nearly $256 million in federal contracts and another $8.7 billion in grant promises because the university had not taken sufficient steps to curb anti-Semitic behavior on campus.
Tensions between the Trump administration and Harvard increased when the university, unlike other universities, refused to accept government interference in its academic and administrative affairs despite pressure.
