Several members described Kashmir issue as root cause of regional instability

Islamabad: The Foreign Office Spokesperson has said that the United Nations Security Council, while expressing reservations over the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, has urged Pakistan and India to avoid military conflict and adopt diplomatic channels.
According to the Foreign Office Spokesperson, at the request of Pakistan, the United Nations Security Council held a closed-door meeting on the India-Pakistan issue, in which the deteriorating security situation in the region and Indian provocations were discussed.
The UN Security Council members expressed deep concern over the tension and emphasized the need to avoid military conflict and adopt diplomatic channels, stated the spokesperson.
The Foreign Office Spokesperson added that several members described the Kashmir issue as the root cause of regional instability and said that it should be resolved following UN resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.
According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, the Pakistani delegate, while briefing on India’s unilateral actions on April 23, said that India’s provocative actions could have serious consequences, while intelligence reports have expressed concern about India’s possible military action, and India’s state terrorism and target killings were also referred to.
The Foreign Office spokesperson said that Pakistan is fully prepared to defend its sovereignty, and in case of aggression, Pakistan has the right to defend itself under the United Nations Charter.
The Foreign Office spokesperson further said that Pakistan strongly rejected Indian allegations regarding the Pahalgam attack, making allegations without research and evidence is condemnable. India uses such incidents to weaken the Kashmiri struggle.
According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, suspending the Indus Water Treaty is a dangerous move by India. Stopping or diverting the flow of rivers would be tantamount to war, and Security Council members also expressed reservations over suspending the Indus Waters Treaty.
According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, Pakistan supported the mediation of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the Security Council and said that the international community should immediately show responsibility.
