Lockdown confusion prevails as Asad Umar urges people to follow SOPs amid looming fourth wave
Islamabad: Federal Minister for Planning and Development, Asd Umar has urged people to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) amid looming fourth Covid-19 wave.
While briefing media at National Command and Operations Center (NCOC), Umar who also heads the country’s Covid response center made no announcement regarding lockdown on Eidul Azha and urged people to adhere to coronavirus protocols.
“Pakistan is witnessing surge in Covid-19 cases due to Indian Delta variant which spreads at faster rate as compared to other variants. I appeal everyone to get vaccinated at earliest. We are vaccinating more than 0.5 million people on daily basis but even this pace is slow,” he said adding that the only way to avoid corona is to get vaccinated and follow SOPs.
The federal minister also urged unvaccinated people to avoid visiting recreational spots on Eid.
“We will stop unvaccinated people from visiting recreational spots,” he added.
Pakistan has reported a steep rise in daily coronavirus cases amid fears of fourth wave.
According to National Command and Operations Center (NCOC), around 2,327 cases of coronavirus were reported while 31 people succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours, taking the total death toll to 22,720.
The total number of confirmed cases reached to 983,719.
As many as 917,329 patients have recovered from the disease with 2,388 critical cases.
