Malta’s PM said that recognizing Palestine as a state is a moral responsibility

Malta: The European country of Malta has announced the recognition of the Palestinian state.
According to foreign media reports, on Sunday, the Prime Minister of Malta, Robert Abela, announced the recognition of the Palestinian state next month.
Local media reports said that the announcement was made by the Maltese Prime Minister during a political event, in which he discussed local and global issues, focusing in particular on the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Malta’s Prime Minister Robert, said that we cannot turn a blind eye to the humanitarian tragedy, recognizing Palestine as a state is a moral responsibility.
He announced that he would recognize the Palestinian state after the UN conference on the Israel-Palestine conflict to be held on June 20.
Malta voted in the Security Council in favor of granting Palestine full membership in the United Nations in April last year.
However, it has not yet officially recognized the Palestinian state.
It is pertinent to note that so far, 147 out of 193 UN member states have recognized Palestine as an independent state.
Last year, Armenia, Slovenia, Ireland, Norway, Spain, the Bahamas, Trinidad, Tobago, Jamaica, and Barbados also joined them.
However, despite growing international support for the Palestinian state, several major Western countries such as the United States, Australia, Britain, and Germany have not yet recognized it.
Last month, French President Emmanuel Macron raised the possibility that France could recognize Palestinian state in the coming months.
